Random Words
This is a great exercise to get you into the mood for writing. It allows you to find new ideas that can be explored more fully in complete works. Basically you pick a bunch of random words and write a short piece on that. I mean short.
For example,
Biro, Hen party, Busisness, wooden, perfection, railings, queen.
Actually those are the words for the first iteration. Post your stories in this topic give everyone a laugh or a cry. We can discuss the style of individual pieces. After some time someone can post up the new set of words.

Re: Random Words
Ok here is my silly scene with those words you posted
If only I was clever enough maybe I could have used my biro to pick my way out of the tower. Or perhaps written Queen Ann a letter to say that I could help her plot a way out of ending up here in precisely two years time, and subsequently losing her head. How I ended up in this century in the first place is beyond my recollection. There was the hen party, the copious amounts of rum, and then there was 'The Game.' I'm sure nobody had any idea it would actually work, but then again don't things truly happen when you least expect them?
I decided to pocket the biro for now. These sort of misunderstandings can make a Tudor person very mad. Mad enough to murder you for heresy and withcraft! The look on their faces though, when they dragged me out of the river and saw my my levi cutoffs and lip piercing was hysterical. I was the monster from the deep!
So, apart from screaming through the railings, I had no idea what else to do! I had no business being locked in a lifeless Tower with a few rotten skulls. There must be a way to escape. But how?
In the corner I spotted an ornate wooden chair. I dragged the heavy thing across the cement floor to a tiny almond shaped opening high above the wall. There I looked down through the hole to see if I could call out to someone in passing. It was hard to see anything but a skeletal outline of trees inbetween the sweeping mists, and I stared down for a long time before seeing any movement at all.
Then a figure appeared just within my peripheral view, "Heeeeeeeelp' I screeched at the top of my voice.
I could tell it was a man, and when he looked up my mouth dropped. There was no mistaking that face, the furry ginger beard and wide girth. He looked up with surprise and pointed at me. 'Carrie?' he bellowed in fit of laugher. 'How the hell did you get up there?'
My legs shook making the chair wobble. He knew my name. What was this, some kind of a sick joke? How on earth did Henry VIII know my NAME?

Re: Random Words
I like that misty it's a cliffhanger and looks as if you can develop it into a history novel for teens? Have you written anything like that?

Nice of you to join us Sammy. No I haven't but you learn something new everyday! I suppose the wonderful thing about writing is that you never know where your characters/stories are going to take you, you can plan the bare bones, but the characters will inevitably lead the way.
